The Desired One

In 1812, in the city of Cartago, Costa Rica, momentous news breaks: King Ferdinand VII, having escaped the Napoleonic invasion of Spain, plans to hold his coronation in this distant land. Governor Acosta, an elderly man steeped in loyalty to the monarchy and possessed of a romantic spirit, is overcome with excitement at the imminent royal visit. This ruler, who has largely kept to his government chambers, makes an unusual decision: he ventures out into the world to announce the coronation to the people and summon them all to the ceremony that very afternoon.
